Did You Know:
60 million girls around the world
are denied an education?

Just because they’re girls?

What are your dreams?

Do you want to be a pilot? A scientist? President? Teacher? Girls everywhere have a dream, but not all of us can chase our dreams. Millions of girls are discriminated against just for being a girl, and aren’t able to go to school. Which means they can’t learn to read, do math, or stretch their pilot wings and fly.

Have you heard of the historic city of Timbuktu?

Did you know that in the 12th Century, this city in Mali, West Africa, was considered the center of culture and learning worldwide? But today, over half the people in Mali don’t have an education and only 1 in 4 girls makes it to 7th grade. Even fewer make it to 8th grade.

We think it’s crucial for these girls to get a chance to follow their dreams.

School sometimes sucks, but it offers the only thing no one can take away from you. An education. A human right. We believe that an education is the best way to end poverty, improve global health, and bring about a more peaceful world.

We are School Girls Unite

“Learning is my favorite part of school! Reading is my best subject. I hope to be President someday, so that all girls will go to school.”

~ Gouanze, Mali scholarship recipient, 13

School Girls Unite is a youth-led U.S. non-profit organization located near the nation’s capital. Together with our sister organization in Mali, we advocate for equal education opportunities for everyone. Our 10-year-old scholarship program supports over 40 girls in five Malian villages. The average cost is only $75 per student each year.
